Students will learn the essential craft of academic writing in this weekly course. With an emphasis on clarity of thought and self-expression, students will focus on developing an original argument and supporting it with evidence and analysis. Students will be instructed in organization, clarity and the importance of the editing process. In addition to writing weekly essays, students will develop their critical reading, grammar and vocabulary skills to strengthen their comprehensive English language mastery. Important themes will include honor, integrity and character. Finally, students will build a firm foundation in English Writing and have the opportunity to prepare for standardized tests, including the SSAT exam for middle school students and the English Section of the SAT exam.
